Us ’n ’Em Youth Theatre explores relationships between teenagers and adults, particularly parents and teachers. The ironic and pessimistic title of this scene, depicting the cast sweeping up and waiting in the dole cue, is ‘Us in Fifteen Years Time’. Youth Theatre workshops ran through the winter of 1974/75 with over 50 young people sometimes taking part (they said there was nothing else to do on Sutton Hill!). When Us ’n ‘Em began to take shape, there was a group of about 12. The final performance was electric not only because of the cast’s dynamic performance skills but also because of the after show debate between the actors and their parents in the audience!
