The main concern of our Madeley Printshop has been to develop group expression with local campaigns and workshops. We worked in many forms – photography, magazines, newspapers, calendars, cartoons, posters, and books of all kinds (see Images 13, 18, 21, 23 and 38). Members of the workshops had the opportunity to develop considerable skills in printing and photography. It has also been an important resource for many of the other community groups in the area to print low run papers and leaflets.
A group of miners worked in our print shop to produce posters and banners in their campaign to stop the closure of the Granville Mine and to save the 600 jobs there. The pit finally closed in 1979, much to the anger and frustration of the miners who were convinced that there was ‘coal all the way to Cannock’.
The TCA worker on this project was Graham Peet who also took the photo
