The Langley Ceramic Group was mainly drawn from people living in houses built before the Telford Corporation arrived. The group designed a mosaic mural that expressed features and characters of old Dawley, such as the local mines and the famous Pig on the Wall. The process involved cutting the clay into eight inch squares, tracing the outlines of the designs on to the soft clay beneath, carving out the details, bisque firing and then applying the glaze. Finally, each ceramic tile was fixed in a conspicuous place next to the main entrance of Langley School.
