In 1981, the Sutton Hill Allotments Campaign was set up to fight the decision by Telford Development Corporation to sell off land allocated a few years before for allotments. At the beginning of 1982, after many months of campaigning, another piece of land was earmarked by the Corporation and we were celebrating a victory.
The picture above shows the 27’ long giant marrow we built for the Carnival in July. We also made a fabric wheelbarrow and vegetables as part of our campaign.
The first of May saw us having a victory celebration dance at the Community Centre, with ‘something to really dance about’, said one member of the campaign group.
