This event was devised by the Telford Unemployment Workshop and performed at Telford’s new shopping centre which the Queen had been invited to open.
Standing on the top of an embankment, each member of the group held aloft a 5ft by 2ft placard painted with a single letter. Together, the placards spelt out ‘God Save the Queen’.
As the Rolls Royce came up to the group, a sharp whistle was blown to attract the attention of both the Queen and the spectators.
On a second whistle, the placards were reversed to reveal ‘God Save Telford’s 1 in 5 Jobless’.
The TCA worker on this project was Graham Marsden
